The Schonstedt u-Locate pipe and cable locator keeps locating simple: arrows show which way to step, and one button gives a depth reading. It comes as two receivers, the u-Locate and the u-Locate+, and both pair with the u-Locate transmitter.

u-Locate or u-Locate+?
Both receivers have the arrows, one-button depth and power mode. The u-Locate works on 82 kHz. The u-Locate+ adds 33 kHz and a 512 Hz sonde mode, so it can follow a sonde through plastic pipe, ducts and drains.
How to locate with the u-Locate
Sweep for power, then put a signal on the line
Start in power mode and walk the dig area in passes about 18 in. apart. Then hook the transmitter to the line at a valve, meter or hydrant, clamp around it, or set it on the ground over the line.
Follow the arrows and read the depth
Step the way the arrow points. Both arrows and a beep mean you're over the line. Set the tip on the ground there and press the depth button.

- Water, gas and telecom lines metal pipe and cable carrying the transmitter's signal.
- Live power cables in power mode, with no transmitter.
- Plastic pipe and ducts (u-Locate+) follow a 512 Hz sonde pushed through them, 5 to 15 ft down.
