Receiver from $1,130Rex or u-Locate: which Schonstedt pipe and cable locator?
Three frequencies and a stronger transmitter
The Schonstedt Rex traces water, sewer and gas pipes and electric and telecom cables on 512 Hz, 33 kHz or 82 kHz, and tracks a 512 Hz sonde for plastic pipe. Its transmitter is under 2 inches thick, puts out up to 5 watts on a direct hookup and checks the line for voltage before it sends.
Lighter, simpler and lower cost
The Schonstedt u-Locate receiver weighs 2.4 lb, runs about 20 hours on six AA batteries and is rated IP65. The standard model runs on 82 kHz, and the u-Locate+ adds 33 kHz and a 512 Hz sonde mode. One transmitter works with both.
What a Schonstedt utility locator can trace
The Rex and u-Locate trace any metal pipe or cable you can put a signal on. Clip the transmitter on at a valve, meter or hydrant, clamp around the line, or set the transmitter on the ground over it. Both receivers also find live power cables on their own, and a sonde pushed through the line lets the Rex or u-Locate+ follow plastic pipe.
Receiver, transmitter or both?
We price the receivers on their own. A receiver alone finds live power cables and, on the Rex or u-Locate+, a sonde. To trace a pipe or a dead cable you need the transmitter too, and we'll quote the two together.
