Which Vivax-Metrotech locator fits the job?

Tracing pipe and cable

The Vivax-Metrotech VM-810 is made for water and gas lines: its signal crosses insulators and rubber gaskets, and one button gives depth and current. The vLoc3-9800 is a walk-over receiver with left and right guidance tones, so you can follow a line without watching the screen. The vLoc3-Pro can show depth and how far you are from the line without standing right over it.

Iron valve boxes, covers and survey nails

The Vivax-Metrotech VM-880 is a one-piece locator for buried iron and steel: valve boxes, manhole covers, survey nails and cast iron pipe. It needs no transmitter, and a plus or minus readout helps you tell a small nail from a manhole cover.

Choosing a vLoc3 receiver

Both vLoc3 receivers read depth within 5% on a clean signal, show the line current, and track sondes for plastic pipe and sewer cameras. The vLoc3-9800 is built for walking long runs, and its rechargeable pack runs about 27 hours. The vLoc3-Pro changes the color of its bar graph when the signal is distorted, so you know when to double-check a reading.

Transmitters and accessories

Questions

What is a Vivax locator?

A Vivax locator is a Vivax-Metrotech utility locator for finding what's buried. The VM-810 and vLoc3 models follow a signal that a transmitter puts on a pipe or cable and read its depth. The VM-880 finds buried iron and steel on its own.

How do you use a Vivax-Metrotech locator?

Put a signal on the line with the transmitter: clip on, clamp around the line, or set the transmitter on the ground over it. Sweep the receiver across until the signal peaks, follow the line, and take a depth reading where you plan to dig.

How much does a Vivax-Metrotech locator cost?

Our Vivax-Metrotech locators start at $1,071 for the VM-880. For the VM-810 and the vLoc3 receivers, request a quote with the transmitter and accessories you need, and we'll respond in writing.
